Origin of School Name
....
Lincoln was once called the Robinson Street School because it was located on Robinson Street.  In 1911, the school was renamed Lincoln School in honor of Abraham Lincoln (1805-1965), 16th President of the U.S.  Five days after General Robert E. Lee's (1807-1870) surrender Lincoln was assassinated, while seeing performance at Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C., by John Wilkes Booth (1838 - 1865), a prominent actor who thought this would help the south.  Twelve days later Booth was tracked down and killed by Union soldiers.
