About Our School
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Math Science Technology & Invention Magnet School
.........
Emphasis at King is placed on hands-on instruction in math,
science, and computer technology. In addition to regular
classroom learning, each student receives instruction on
computer lab several times per week. Two computer labs each
equipped with 35 work stations are programmed to enable your
child to move at his or her own pace in basic math, phonics, and
computer skills.
Each classroom has six to eight computers wired directly to the
school-wide network which allows students to work with software
at grade and ability levels. Teachers receive on-going
training in science and computer technology as well as software
for integration into their curriculum.
In
science, children are engaged in direct experience of the
natural world through hands-on exploration and experimentation,
lab experiences, scientist-in-residence, use of the school
grounds, science field trips, observation of classroom plants
and animals, and science fair projects.
Understanding of math concepts is developed through the use of
math manipulatives, math games, science and math
interdisciplinary activities, and "real life" experiences such
as the school store in addition to text based activities.
Students use technology regularly in their classrooms and the
computer lab.
