IB Timeline for the Diploma Program at Schenectady High
School
Sophomore Year

Students meet with student advisor and their guidance
counselor to plan which higher level and standard level courses
will be needed.
Plan the junior and senior year schedule accordingly.
Remember, there are many ways to get an IB diploma. One
should plan a program built on one's strengths and interests.
Summer After the End of Sophomore Year
Begin to accumulate
CAS hours.
Don't forget to get them documented and signed.
Junior Year

Fall
Continue to accumulate CAS hours and documentation as you
complete each activity coordinate CAS activities with Mrs.
Johnson, the CAS coordinator. You will be registered with
IBO during October for exams as an 'anticipated' candidate.
Take the PSAT's in October (National Merit Scholarship)
Winter
Prepare and register for the SAT's, SAT II's and ACT's held
in the spring.
Spring
Continue to accumulate CAS hours and documentation.
Before the end of June, choose the
Extended
Essay subject area, and then select a supervisor from the
staff. First
World Literature Paper for
Language A1 will be completed and sent out in March of the
senior year.
Summer
Work on summer assignments for each academic class and on
the Extended Essay (in communication with the EE supervisor who
has to certify that the work is that of the student and
also grade the essay with a predicted grade - thus must
be working constantly and closely together with the student.)
Continue to accumulate
CAS hours
and documentation.
Senior Year

First Day of School
Turn in first draft of the
Extended
Essay to supervisor if it is completed.
Get a note from your supervisor indicating that it is completed.
September to Winter Break
Continue accumulating
CAS hours and
documentation. Work with your extended essay supervisor to
revise and polish your extended essay - finish off the EE.
Last Day before the Winter Break
Submit two clean copies of the final Extended Essay with
school and candidate numbers on every page - strictly following
IB guidelines. Also provide the IB coordinator with the
essay in digital form (for "turnitin.com)
December 15 - March 30
Internal assessments in all subject areas fall due.
Dates will be set by subject teachers. This includes
English and foreign language, written coursework and orals,
history coursework, group projects, math projects, computer
science and math dossiers, visual art research workbooks and
candidate record booklets, music performance recordings and
other subject requirements.
April 10
Predicted grades are submitted electronically to IBO.
April 20
Samples of work must be received by IBO.
First three weeks in May
All written IB exams take place. During this period be
sure to sign a formal request giving permission to the IB to
send your results free of any charge, directly to the university
of your choice.
Results
A PIN will be provided to each IB student allowing Web
access from July 5 to the candidate's results for May's exams.
IB grades and results are no longer mailed out to individuals.
It is important to keep this PIN safe.
Return to SHS in December for IB graduation
After your first semester away at school, please come back
to Schenectady High School where you will be recognized at an IB
ceremony and reception for your family. |
