Back-to-School Brings Book Bags
and Supplies to Hamilton Students
The students at Hamilton Elementary School wore big smiles
Friday when representatives of Schenectady County, the Junior
League of Schenectady and Saratoga Counties and Fidelis Care
dropped by to distribute book bags and school supplies.
Thanks to the
efforts of many, each of the nearly 500 students in the school
received a bag filled with grade appropriate supplies. “This is
a very tough year,” said Susan Savage, Chair of the Schenectady
County Legislature. “Many families can’t provide the
essentials. Together we can make a brighter school year.”
Schenectady County
teamed up with the Junior League, Fidelis Care and PYX 106 to
support the Operation Back-to-School Program. The school
supplies were donated by Schenectady County employees and
members of the public. Collection bins were located in
Schenectady County buildings including county office buildings,
all library branches and the Department of Motor Vehicle. “We
are all working together to help the students get the year
started right,” said Savage.
Each book bag
included supplies like notebooks, paper, pens, pencils and
crayons.
School board
president Cathy Lewis was also on hand to show support and lend
a hand.
Now in its seventh year, Operation Back-to-School has brought
school supplies and backpacks to nearly 6,500 children
throughout Schenectady County.
