What Is Friends of Music?
Friends
Of Music is a volunteer organization of parents and
teachers who want to support the music programs in the
Schenectady City School District.
We want every child who
desires it to have an instrument or take part in our music
programs. The Schenectady School District FOM looks for
ways to solicit donations of used instruments, and raise
funds to help purchase new or used instruments, repair those
we already have, and to provide funding for new
vocal/instrumental music, transportation and other music
related operating expenses in the district.
Last year, FOM
donated money, instruments, music, supplies and other items
totaling over $8000 to Schenectady City School District
music programs.

Why Do We Need FOM?
The Schenectady City School
District is the
largest school district in the
capital district. While the district is very supportive of
the arts in general, and music in particular, the size of
Schenectady schools makes it hard to meet the demands of an
ever increasing population.
