Girls Attend
Conference
on Teen Topics, Creative Expression
About 150 seventh
and eighth grade girls in the Schenectady City School District
participated in a day long girls’ conference at Glen
Sanders Mansion on November 18.
The Girls Day Out
event called "Breaking Barriers/Building Relationships"
addressed teen-girl topics. Students attended workshops in the
morning that focused on teen issues such as dealing with
bullies, empowerment and leadership, stress, healthy
relationships, depression and friendship.
In the afternoon,
the girls had the opportunity to participate in creative
expression workshops. These included exercise, visual arts,
drumming, poetry, singing, drama, theater and more.
The students who
attended the conference will be part of an extended program and
will attend meetings held at their schools designed to
reinforce the messages presented at the conference.
Students
represented Central Park International Magnet School,
King Magnet School, Mont Pleasant Middle School and Oneida
Middle School.
