Chess Club, Study Circles
Group Spend Afternoon Playing Chess and Getting to Know Each
Other
The
Central Park Middle School Chess Club and the Study Circles
group recently spent an afternoon at nearby Central Park.
Fifty-three students walked over to the park on a beautiful
sunny afternoon for a pizza lunch and then enjoyed competing in
a round robin chess tournament in the park's pavilion.
Special thanks to
the Central Park PTSO and Schenectady Study Circles, a group
that strives to promote diversity in the school and community,
who provided the funding to purchase 18 new chess boards.
The event came
after Central Park students attended a Study Circles conference
at which they were asked to plan an event that would promote
diversity and culture. The afternoon competition did just
that. Students not only interacted and got to know each
other better, but many also learned more about the game of
chess.
