Central
Park was built in 1923 with thirty-nine rooms at a cost of
$467,880 on Elm Street.
Origin of
School Name
........
The school was named for its proximity to Schenectady's
beautiful Central Park.
Honors/Recognition
........
Central Park is the first National Aeronautics and Space
Administration School, NASA Explorer School established in New
York State (one of fifty schools selected from 430 applicants).
Central Park received recognition as a New York State Blue
Ribbon School, 1999-2000 and is a recipient of a General
Electric grant for middle schools.

Pat Riley, former player and coach in the National
Basketball Association (NBA); Barry Kramer, former player in
American Basketball Association (ABA) and Schenectady County
Supreme Court Justice.
Central Park
Today
........
CPMS today has six computer labs, technology labs, 39
classrooms, a piano lab, an auditorium and two gymnasiums.
There are 52 teachers on staff plus support staff, three hall
monitors and one resource officer. The school partners with
science and engineering students from Clarkson University.
Central Park offers many activities including modified sports
programs, chorus, instrumental and band programs, enrichment
activities as
well as Odyssey of the Mind programs.
