Dear Parents and Students,
As the school
board President, it gives me great pleasure to welcome all
families and students to the 2009 – 2010 school year. The
beginning of the new school year is an exciting time for all of
us. It is important that we take this time to redirect our
attention and focus on our students and their education
Over the last
several months our district has endured an unusual cycle of
events that have created concern for all of us. I humbly ask for
your patience, understanding and support during these difficult
times. I will work diligently to earn and restore your
confidence and to make our district a beacon of hope within the
community. I truly want every student to be happy and
successful. We must work together.
Our
school district continues to offer great programs, a dedicated
staff and an excellent mission and vision. Over the last couple
of years our students have made huge academic gains. Our
teachers will continue to encourage and help your children meet
academic standards as well as reinforce positive behavior
expectations.
However, as parents we need to ensure that each child enters
school every day ready to learn. It is important to provide
consistency and structure with bedtime, homework, attendance and
getting to school on time. We also need to teach our students to
be responsible for their behaviors, good work ethic and respect
for themselves and others both in and out of school.
The
adults in our schools work hard everyday to help our students
prepare for their futures. I am asking that you become a true
partner with our schools and teachers in your child’s education.
This partnership can be in the form of attending Back to School
Night, the parent teacher conference in the Fall, and simply
staying in touch with all your child’s teachers. Getting
involved in your child's school is something that every parent
should do and it can be a great way to get to know your
children's teachers, school administrators, and meet other
parents.
In
order to stay fully informed of all important school news and
information, I recommend that you:
-
Attend the
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and Parent Partnership
Team (PPT) at your child’s school
-
Review the
district’s Home Page frequently – new messages are posted
daily
http://www.schenectady.k12.ny.us
Please
do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or building
principal with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Maxine Brisport
