A
Fundamental Water Skills course is required of all
incoming 9th graders. Students will need the proper
bathing suits which consists of one piece for girls
and suits with mesh liners for boys.
Students can opt to take a test to show proficiency if
they wish to remain in the regular physical education
class. The course is basic. Proficient swimmers are
encouraged to test out.
Students will be offered elective courses during the
school year as part of the regular education curriculum.
The proficiency test will be offered either after school
or during PE class this fall.
The
Fundamentals Water Skills Class Proficiency Test
includes:

Enter water from chest height on side of the pool.

Demonstrate back float for 15 seconds.

Swim using a combination of arm and leg action for
15 feet on front.

Tread water for one minute.
-
Swim using a combination of arm and leg action for
15 feet on back.
Students with medical problems that would excuse them
from this requirement should complete and submit
the
physician's excuse form
along with the
physician's note.
