Schenectady City
School District Athletic
Hall of Fame Names Class
of 2008
The Schenectady City
School District Athletic
Hall of Fame committee
is pleased to announce
the induction class for
2008. This year’s
inductees will be
Joe Loudis,
Peter Famiano
and
John Grabowski.
Loudis was a member of
the 1954 Schenectady
Little League World
Championship team. He
was a four-sport letter
winner at Mont Pleasant
High School, playing on
undefeated tennis and
baseball teams. He has
won more than four
hundred basketball games
as the coach at Cohoes
High School and
Mechanicville High
School. He took
Mechanicville teams to
the NYSPHSAA Basketball
Tournament semi-finals
in 1995 and then the
finals in 1996. He will
be inducted into the New
York State Basketball
Hall of Fame in March.
Famiano
was a member of
Linton High School’s
undefeated New York
State championship golf
team in 1960. He won
the New York State
Junior golf championship
in 1961. He played golf
at the University of
Houston from 1962-1966
and on the South African
PGA Tour from
1971-1988. He coached
golf at Montclair State
University. He has been
the New Jersey PGA
Senior Player of the
Year three times and is
a member of the NJPGA
Hall of Fame.
Grabowski
graduated from
the original Schenectady
High School in 1918. He
had a seven-year Major
League Baseball career,
playing with the White
Sox, Yankees and
Tigers. He was a
catcher on the Yankees’
World Series
championship teams in
1927 and 1928. He
batted .277 during the
1927 season. His
teammates included Babe
Ruth and Lou Gehrig. He
will be inducted
posthumously.

for September.
