About our School

Academy of Culture and Communication at Pleasant Valley
........
Pleasant Valley was built in 1922 with thirty-two room at a cost of $544,140 in its current location on Forest Road.  Pleasant Valley once had a tuberculosis floor, a small zoo, cosmetology classes and a room where airplanes were built.  In 2001, major renovation added an elevator, a main office, new bathrooms and a remodeled gymnasium.  Also in 2001, the school officially became the fourth Magnet School in Schenectady and was renamed the Academy of Culture and Communication at Pleasant Valley.

Origin of School Name
........
Back in 1919, the Board of Education wanted Schenectady Schools to have pleasing names and convey an idea of the schools location, which was located within the boundaries of Forest Road and Pleasant Valley Park - thus the name Pleasant Valley.  when the school became a Magnet School, its name was changed to the Academy of Culture and Communication at Pleasant Valley because of the school's new emphasis on the theme, culture and communication.
